Jumping off Durdle Door

1.1, 2.1, 2.2 I visited Durdle Door in Dorset with its famous arch and beautiful sunsets. I used AV priority to create a depth of field, I wanted to focus on social documentary photos which I enjoy the most. I focused on the composition of landscape as well as child photography in the frame. Using a flash in some of the images would make the frame pop out more. Using my Fuji camera and 23mm lens made it easy to explore and be candid with the children using a compact camera.

3.1, 3.2 As I was focusing on the sea and the horizon in the distance when taking pictures of the arch, some of the exposure was quite bright, using lightroom afterwards I edited the image. I could sharpen and move up the contrast to make the boat and arch clearer. With the same arch I managed to capture my daughter on the beach where the light was really pretty, the seaweed was blurred due to movement, this might have made the picture better if it was still, however I quite like it, as it shows the playfulness in the story of the image. As I used a flash on some of the photos to help the frame pop out, there was bit to much exposure, so in lightroom I enhanced the contrast and decreased some highlights caused from the flash. It was a decision to crop the first photo of the boat in the arch to a square image, however on reflection maybe I could have kept to the original so all the landscape is in. This is true too with my framed pictures of my children and the beach, perhaps stepping back and seeing the whole scene with the cropped frame in the middle could have been more effective.

4.1 As it was on the coast, I made sure I was safe taking the picture on the cliff side as well as keeping a close eye on my children when taking their picture by the shore line.
